LOCATION: Along West Silver Lake Drive

Some years ago, SLRC proposed adding a section of the West Silver Lake Drive path that would wind through the Eucalyptus Grove. However, nothing came of it until 2019 when, during an early phase of the bypass construction, LADWP created a "spur" off the regular path that turned out to be an instant hit. Path users were able to walk under the 60+ foot trees and smell their fragrant oils, enjoy the shade from the overhanging branches, and get closer to Ivanhoe Reservoir than before while still maintaining a safe distance from the nesting Great Blue Herons.

As construction continued and West Silver Lake Drive was reopened to two-way traffic, the path through the Eucalyptus Grove was blocked off. We worked with LADWP to install a new walking path, with accessible ramp, install benches, and to add irrigation to the area between the path and the fence. With lots of help from our community volunteers, we planted this area in November, 2022, with locally native plants and wildflower seeds, selected to provide food and shelter for the birds and pollinators.

Eucalyptus Grove, without path

The Eucalyptus Grove remains behind a fence, without regular maintenance or understory plants that would help feed and support our birds and other wildlife. For now.
